Kolkata The 12-page civic polls manifesto released by the state Congress on Sunday has three pages dedicated to explaining why the Congress-Trinamool bonhomie ended. The manifesto also launches an attack on the CPM, besides chalking out the party’s plans for the state’s development.

“In the last one decade, there have been instances of Congress leaders and supporters joining the Trinamool Congress. On ideological grounds, Congress has always tried to forge an alliance with the party to defeat the CPM,” reads the manifesto, adding: “Despite being an ally of the UPA government at the Centre, the Trinamool Congress has ignored our demands and been totally uncompromising while chalking out the alliance.”

The manifesto indicates the Congress leadership is miffed with the Trinamool for failing to forge the alliance.

Taking a dig at the CPM, state Congress working president Pradip Bhattacharjee said: “Congress is not a financially bankrupt party that it has to depend on the CPM for financing its candidates. Claims suggestive of the same are an insult to our party and we hope political leaders refrain from making such statements in the future.”

On Mamata Banerjee’s statements that there are only two choices — CPM and the Trinamool — for the state’s electorate, Bhattacharjee said: “This is a personal perception of an individual, but citizens who will vote in the municipal polls know the truth.”
