Kolkata After successfully using People’s Committee Against Police Atrocity (PCAPA) in Lalgarh as their frontal outfit, Maoists are said to have infiltrated the Bhumi Ucched Pratirodh Committee (BUPC), the outfit which was in the frontline of the agitation against land acquisition in Nandigram, say senior police officers.

According to an intelligence report, two senior “non-Bengali Maoist leaders” have visited Khejuri and held meetings with BUPC leaders.

“The BUPC is yet to start acting as a frontal outfit for the Maoists but they have made inroads into it and they will try to spread their base in Nandigram with the help of the BUPC,” said DGP Bhupindar Singh.

Four Maoists, including a woman, were arrested from Khejuri in Nandigram yesterday. Police claim two rifles, cartridges and Maoist posters were recovered from them. On interrogation, the ultras allegedly confessed they had earlier worked in Lalgarh.

“We have come to know about some of the hideouts of the Maoists,” said East Midnapore SP Ashok Biswas. The police have also arrested two dissident Trinamool leaders from Gangra Anchal for providing shelter to Maoists.
