New Delhi, January 4 The Connaught Place area is in for a big touch-up. Close on the heels of the ongoing renovation work in Janpath market, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) plans to take the reconstruction bit to neighbouring Yusuf Zai Market, next to Shanker Market on the Outer Circle. Work, say municipal officials, will begin soon.

* All 109 shops on the stretch will undergo a change in facade that would be in line with the restoration work being carried out in the Inner Circle of Connaught Place. The shops will be painted ivory white (like CP), and the doors will be akin to the design of the wooden windows on the first floor of the buildings in the Inner Circle.
* The first floor of the shops will have a glass show-window — similar to the shops in Janpath and the mini-Tibetan market there.
* Hoardings of similar design and size and will be placed right above the doorway to replace the unattractive hoardings currently seen on the shop exteriors.
* The walkway outside the shops will be cleared of encroachments and will be resurfaced with colourful interlocked tiles.
* NDMC would be preparing a model shop by renovating one shop, before beginning work on the entire stretch.
* Entire project will cost about Rs 2.25 crores and will be completed by December 2008.
