The bullet-riddled body of the labourer, Shibshankar Das, was found near Chotokalsibhanga village under the Salboni police station area.
The posters near the body claimed that Das was a police informer and was given the death sentence by the “people’s court”. Maoist-backed Sidhu Kanhu Gana Militia claimed responsibility for the killing.
“The body has been sent for postmortem. We have initiated an investigation,” said Manoj Verma, District Police Superintendent.
According to the victim’s wife, Ashalata Das, on Thursday, Das had gone to Gormal to attend a religious ceremony and returned yesterday evening.
On Saturday night, unknown youths called him out of his residence and since then he went missing.
In a separate incident, Maoist posters were found in Midnapore town near the SP’s residence and the district police headquarters.
Four posters, which were pasted on the walls of the Midnapore bus stand, called on the people of all the villages to rise up against the police and their informers.
The posters sent the police in a tizzy as the place is very close to the SP’s residence and the district police headquarters.
