Kolkata Will inquire into LF ‘corruption’ if elected to power: Mamata
Terming the Left Front government as the “fountainhead of corruption” in West Bengal, Trinamool Congress on Friday said if voted to power, it would probe into their malpractices. Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee said her party would “expose the corrupt practices” of the Left Front Government if voted to power in the 2011 Assembly elections. “The Left Front has been the fountainhead of corruption for the last 32 years and once it is out of power, a probe will be initiated against its corruption,” Banerjee said.

Pranab to unveil digital planetarium today
SILIGURI: Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee is scheduled to inaugurate a digital planetarium at the North Bengal Science Centre at Matigara on this town’s outskirts on Saturday. The planetarium is the first of its kind in the eastern region. Director General of the National Science Museum, G S Routea will be present on the occasion. The finance minister does not have any political engagement, president of Darjeeling Congress (Plains), Shankar Malakar said.

AI flight returns to airport twice
An Agartala-bound Air India flight had to return to the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport at Dum Dum twice after take-offs on Friday.
The flight, IC 243, took off for Agartala at 9.50 am but returned to the airport at 10.55 am after developing a technical snag.
A few hours later, the plane took off again at 1.20 pm, but returned at 1.45 pm, following another technical snag. With 82 passengers on board, the flight finally left at 4.30 pm.

Baby elephant dies in zoo
A four-month-old elephant died of chronic diarrhoea at the veterinary hospital of Alipore Zoo on Friday.
The elephant had strayed away from its herd at Dantan forest in West Midnapore district and was brought to hospital on February 2. “Even as a team of three doctors was monitoring the health of the elephant, we failed to save him,” said Raju Das, director, Alipore Zoological Gardens.
Atanu Raha, state Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, added: “With his mother not around, we had to feed the elephant with milk powder. On most occasions, it (milk powder) does not suit them and they become prone to infection.”

Robbery at courier office
A day after robbers struck at a courier firm at Domjur in Howrah and decamped with jewellery and cash worth Rs 1 crore, the CID began probing the case on Friday.
The firm employees told CID officials that armed men barged into the office yesterday and fled with the cash and jewellery.
“We suspect the hand of an employee behind the incident. The robbers had information about the cash and valuable jewellery,” said a CID official, adding that two persons had been detained for interrogation today.
ADG CID Raj Kanojia, however, added: “Nobody has been arrested so far.”
