Pune, February 16 In view of the current faculty crunch at the National Defence academy (NDA), the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence, which met at the NDA on Saturday, has proposed to set up an independent interview panel to make recruitments for the institute.

The NDA officials briefed the 25-member parliamentart standing committee delegation which included member of Parliaments (MPs), Lok Sabha Secretariat Officials, and Ministry of Defence officials on the challenges facing the institute. The recommendations of the committee would be sent to the Defence Ministry by the fag end of the budget session, said chairman of the parliamentary committee, Balasaheb Vikhe Patil, in an interaction with the media.

"Presently, there is a 50 per cent shortage of faculty at the NDA. This is because of the drawn out procedure for recruitment under the Union board. We have recommended the setting up of an independent interview panel under the NDA," said Vikhe patil, chairman.

While the NDA has not been able to appoint a principal for over seven months now, there has been no vice principal and registrar for a longer duration. "The appointment of candidates via UPSC has been prolonged.

Today a candidate joined the academy 27 month after he was recruited. Once a separate interview board is created, the NDA will be able to recruit candidates as and when required," said MP and member of the standing committee, Shivaji Adhalrao Patil.
