Indian Oil make it three in a row

Mumbai Indian Oil retained their hold on the K C Mahindra Memorial Shield, by completing a hat-trick of wins, as they defeated Air-India by 14 runs in the 50-overs final at the MCA’s BKC ground, Bandra on Friday.

After being put into bat, Indian Oil suffered an early set back, before one-drop Ravikant Shukla (50) and veteran left-hander Manoj Joglekar (39) helped their team achieve a respectable total of 223 for 9 in their stipulated overs. Medium-pacers Siddharth Trivedi and Umesh Yadav shared the spoils for the airmen by taking three wickets each.

Air-India got a solid start as their openers Paul Valthaty and Naman Ojha put on 60 runs, with the latter contributing a well-made 30. Valthaty was then joined by Robin Uthappa, and the duo added another 67 runs to take the total to 127, before Air India collapsed for 209. Valthaty’s knock of 78 was studded with fours sixesandeight fours after facing 65 balls.

Brief scores: Indian Oil 223 for 9 in 50 overs (Ravikant Shukla 50, Wasim Jaffer 24, Mandar Phadke 39, Aditya Tare 26; Siddharth Trivedi 3-30, Umesh Yadav 3-45) bt Air-India 209 for 9 in 47 overs (Paul Valthaty 78, Naman Ojha 30, Prashant Naik 27; Vikrant Yellegetti 5-27, Rajesh Pawar 3-50) by 14 runs.
