Talking to the media after a meeting with Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee at Writers’ Building on Friday, the minister said: “Industries cannot be set up in the sky or on waterbodies.” He, however, had a word of caution — land acquisition needs to be accompanied by adequate compensation.
Pawar said even when 36,000 acres were taken for the establishment of New Mumbai, around 12.5 per cent of the land was returned to the original owners after development.
Further, this was accompanied by adequate compensation on par with market prices.
