“Industries avoided coming to UP because the state lacks proper infrastructure. But the environment is slowly changing,” he said. Das added that the change was not because of any political party but because of the increasing awareness of the people.
He said the NRIs of UP are feeling this change and are now keen to invest in the state. Das was speaking as the chief guest at a function organised by the Customs, Central Excise and Service Tax, Lucknow Zone today to mark the Central Excise Day, which falls on February 24.
The minister also lauded the effective revenue generation practices of all the zones in the state. “Instead of adopting coercive measures, officials have created an amiable and friendly environment,” he said.
Chief Commissioner of Customs, Central Excise and Service Tax (Lucknow Zone) Rajesh Dhingra endorsed the observation, although he credited the stable political situation of the state for the improvement.
He added that in 2006-07, the state had achieved 71 per cent growth in revenue collection from central excise and named petrol as the biggest earner. He added that sugar, plastic and paan masala industries were the other high-revenue-paying industries.
