Ludhiana Inspired by reel life, two unemployed youths made an unsuccessful attempt to make a quick buck by extorting money from a local businessman. They were later arrested by the police. The arrested youths, Ashwani alias Sunny and his uncle Rajinder, had demanded Rs 20 lakh while posing as men from the Dawood Abraham gang.

While Sunny is a city resident, Rajinder hails from Nagal village near Dehlon.

SSP R K Jaiswal said that Dhruv Aggrarwal, son of a leading businessman Sudarshan Aggrawal, who owns a paints showroom near Dandi Swami Chowk got a call on January 26. The caller claimed to be a member of the Dawood Abraham gang and sought Rs 20 lakh. The caller asked Dhruv Aggarwal either to pay up or face the consequences.

SSP Jaiswal said that Aggarwal reported the matter to the police. The police laid a trap to arrest the extortionists. On Wednesday evening, Aggarwal dropped the ‘money’ at the place designated by the accused— an isolated park near Hero DMC Heart Institute. The police nabbed the accused who came to take the money. “We covered the wads of plain paper with currency notes,” the SSP said.

Jaiswal said that during the preliminary interrogation, the duo had confessed to their crime. He said that Sunny used to work at the shop of Aggarwals a few months ago.

Take cue from C Kkompany

The duo was inspired by Bollywood flick ‘C Kkompany’. SSP Jaiswal said that the arrested duo did not have a crime record and wanted to open a dhaba with the money. While Sunny is Class XII pass, Rajinder is a primary-level pass only.
