Chandigarh, March 7 In a bid to bring transparency in the system of internal assessment, internal assessment scores of students of Panjab University as well as affiliated colleges will be displayed on the notice boards.

The final list will be prepared only after students sign the scorecard. The decision has been conveyed to chairpersons of all the departments as well as principals of affiliated colleges.

The decision comes after certain discrepancies were found in the system of assessment.

Instances of teachers, who wanted to change the assessment after the final lists were submitted, have been reported. There have been cases where despite failing in theory, students scored well in internal assessment.

Students, who feel that some teachers are biased while marking the internal assessment, have also questioned the fairness of the system time and again.

Demands to abolish the internal assessment completely have also been raised often.

PU has scheduled two conferences to explain the issue in which principals of colleges affiliated to the varsity will participate.

On March 19, the principals will submit the internal assessment and in the second meeting on April 6, they will submit practical marks of the students.

CDs on which the data (marks) would be received and software containing the approved format have already been provided to the colleges.

A sample format of the title page of the answer book to be used by undergraduate students during the university examination has also been sent to the affiliated colleges so that students can be guided on how to fill in the examination code, sub-code and related matters. Students have been facing frequent problems in this respect.

Vice-Chancellor Professor R C Sobti said more steps are being taken to bring reforms in the examination system.
