International moot court competition starts at PU

In A first, the University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS) department at Panjab University is hosting a three-day international moot court competition, which began on Friday. UILS is organising the national round of the prestigious Philip C Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition in association with Surana and Surana International Attorneys.

“The students and staff of the college are all set for the event as it is a great opportunity which has been bestowed upon the institute in the fifth year of its inception. The first batch of the institute will pass out this year,” said an enthusiastic faulty member.

Supreme Court judges Justice B Sudershan Reddy and Justice H S Bedi and Justice T S Thakur, Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court will inaugurate the national competition on Saturday at the law auditorium. The moot competitions will be judged by equally competent judges of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Around 30 teams from across the country including teams from Army Law School, Gujarat National Law University, ILS Law College, NALSAR Hyderabad, National Law School of India University, National Law University, Jodhpur and Symbiosis Pune among others will be participating in the event.

The team which wins the national round will advance into the Sherman and Sterling international rounds scheduled to be held in Washington from March 22 to 28.
