International Women’s Day observed

GGDSD College: International Women’s Day was celebrated in the college premises on Friday as part of the two-day celebrations of the occasion. On the first day, Principal Dr A C Vaid spoke on the significance of the day. He appealed to all to observe the day in its true spirit and acknowledge the contribution of women in all spheres of our lives. Other faculty members expressed their concern on the rising rate of female foeticide. The students presented a colourful event.

Aryans Business School: To honour women’s empowerment on the eve of International Women’s Day, Aryans Business School in Village Nepran organised a declamation contest on the topic, “Women as a Business Leader — The Need of the Hour”. To portray the power of women in the corporate world, students gave presentations on biography of woman top shots like — Indra Nooyi, Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Vinita Bali, Naina Lal Kidwai, Chitra Sood, Ketki Gadgil, Dr Swati A Piramal.

Jan Shiksha Sansthan: More than 300 students participated in a programme organised by Jan Shiksha Santhan, Mohali, on its campus as well as the field office in village Radiala. Addressing the gathering, Dildar Khan, Director of the Sansthan, said that though Indian women realised the need for empowerment, they are still marginalised despite various efforts. Empowerment of women is not possible until the do not realise the need for and relevance of education.

Dev Samaj College for Women: The college and Centre for Adult, Continuing Education and Extension (CACEE) of Panjab University organised a seminar on Women and Development on the eve of International Women Day. As many as 50 NSS Volunteers and teachers of college attended the discussion, which was presided over by social activist and Haryana Ratan Awardee Dr Kalpana Gai. Addressing the students, Gai said that there is issues like women’s literacy, nutrition and self employment are utmost important for country’s development.
