Interstate gang busted, 3 held

Ludhiana, February 8 With the arrest of kingpin Harbhajan Singh Kala and his two aides, the police claimed to have busted an interstate gang here today.

SSP R K Jaiswal while talking to mediapersons said, "The gang had been active in Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Uttrankhand for the last many years. We received secret information at Model Town police station on January 7 that some persons were suspiciously moving in a car. A police party led by SHO Waryam Singh laid a naka near the Jawwadi Bridge and nabbed three persons and impounded their car (UA-04B-7030). Later, we found that the car had been stolen from Uttar Pardesh. During the search operation, the police recovered .32 bore, single barrel gun and a country-made pistol."

The SSP added, "On questioning, the trio was identified as Harbhajan Singh alias Kala, a resident of Pathma village which falls under Nurpur police station, Bohar Singh, resident of Fazilka and Ranjit Singh alias Sonu, a resident of Ratanpur in Rampur district of Uttar Pradesh."

The Model Town police have registered a case under sections 379 and 411 of the IPC against the arrested persons.

The SSP further added that during interrogation, the arrested persons admitted that they are active members of an interstate gang.

Four of their accomplices are still at large. Preliminary interrogation revealed that it that the accused were active in Punjab, Haryana, UP and Uttrankhand. Their modus operandi was to flee to the other states after committing a crime. They never stayed in the same state for a long time due to the fear of being caught. As far as the involvement of these men in other cases is concerned, the trio has confessed to their involvement in more than 24 cases which were registered in the four states."

The SSP added that, "The number of cases would be around 50 as the gang has been active for the last many years."
