Kolkata A counsel for the West Bengal government today apprised the Calcutta High Court that the CID has completed its investigation into the unnatural death of Saumik Bose, a student of Bengal Engineering and Science University (BESU), Shibpur, in August, 2006.

This was stated by Additional Advocate General Nisith Adhikary.

The CID, which will place the report before the CJM’s court Howrah, has concluded that Saumik died in an accident. The court will hear the case on May 21.

Saumik, a second year engineering student, reportedly fell from a balcony of a students hostel in the BESU. He was admitted to a private hospital and later succumbed to injuries.

Following the incident, Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee had directed the CID to conduct an investigation into the death of Saumik.

Justice Jayanta Kumar Biswash of the High Court, meanwhile, said that Saumik’s parents could challenge the CID investigation in a criminal court.

Saumik’s father Ashoke Bose had filed a petition in the HC in 2007 alleging that the CID did not conduct a proper investigation into the death of Saumik.

Advocate Biswarup Bhattacharjee, counsel of Bose, said they would file a petition in the CJM court at Howrah challenging the report of the CID.
