Irfan Ahmed bowls Varanasi to victory

Lucknow A six wicket haul by Irfan Ahmed went a long way as Varanasi Cricket Association defeated Collage Group, Delhi by 24 runs in their day's match of the 15th All India Subhash Memorial Cricket Tournament at Sonebhadra. Irfan was declared Man-of-the-match for his efforts.

Due to a late start, the match had to be brought down to a 35 overs-a-side affair.Choosing to bat first after winning the toss, the Varanasi team scored 160 runs losing nine wickets in the given 35 overs. Abhinav Verma (38) and Rakesh Mishra (32) were the main run-getters. Sanjeev Rawat bowled well and collected four wickets giving away 27 runs in his seven overs spell. Sharad Kumar took two wickets while Mansoor and Sanjay claimed apiece each.

In reply, College Group was bowled out at a total of 136 runs in 34 overs. Sunil Dalal with 56 was the top scorer. Sunil's 56 came off 64 balls which featured two boundaries and a six. Irfan Ahmed bowled with good vision and took six wickets conceding 21 runs in his seven over spell which featured a maiden over as well. Rakesh Gupta took two wickets while Mritunjay Tripathi claimed one wicket.

In the match played on Monday, Cricket Association Lucknow (CAL) registered a 120-run victory against Northern Railway.
