Even as placements are yet to begin in the college, most graduates from IRMA have job offers in hand well in advance. Besides, they will get an opportunity to choose from the jobs offered to them, with already 40 per cent students getting Pre Placement Offers (PPO), according to IRMA officials.

Several companies were invited to participate in the campus placements in December 2008, wherein the employers scrutinised the students’ profile and shortlisted them. The companies have now been invited for campus interviews between February 8 and 11.

International donor NGOs, public sector firms working in food, commodity and dairy sector and corporate firms have made PPOs to graduating students even before the recruitment programme, which begins from February 8.

Prof Saswata Biswas, Placement Coordinator, IRMA, said: “At least 200 job offers are expected for 100 IRMA graduates this year. The institute invites only those organisations which have been designated by the Board of Governors-IRMA. These include the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), Banas Diary, international organisation Windroff Foundation and several other cooperative as well as public sector organisations.”

He, however, refused to divulge further details about the pay packages offered in the PPOs. “A clearer picture will emerge only after the recruitments are over,” he said.

Officials said on condition of anonymity that there has been a rise in the number of PPOs offered this year as compared to 2008. An official said: “While there were only 10 per cent PPOs last year, the number has increased to almost 40 per cent this year.”

Giving further details on the PPOs, Prof Biswas said that organisations such as NDDB and GCMMF are making more job offers to IRMA graduates this year.
