Muktsar/Ferozepur, February 25 While most of the buses from the state were summoned for tomorrow’s SAD-BJP rally in Delhi, those of Orbit Company, which is owned by the Badal family, plied as usual.

The transport system, especially in rural areas, was badly hit. Karan Singh, who was waiting for a bus in Rupana village, rapped the authorities for making the common man suffer. Reports poring in from Malout, Abohar, Badal, Lambi, Fazilka, Jalalabad and Ferozepur said passengers had to wait for hours for buses.

As per an estimate, more than 2,500 Orbit buses plied on various routes. While other bus operators suffered losses today, buses of CM’s company allegedly made a killing.

A transporter said Orbit buses doubled their profit today. Buta Singh, a bus operator, said they always suffer no matter which party rules the state.

Another transporter said during the Amritsar rally, they were promised Rs 10,000 per mini-bus, but later when they approached the higher authorities, they were told that they would get Rs 500 per bus.

While Baldev Singh of Orbit Company declined to comment on the issue, Ferozepur Regional Transport Authority (RTA) said, “We are government officials and will ‘obey the orders from Chandigarh’.”
