Mumbai Finally monsoon seems to have caught up in Mumbai with Thursday night seeing intense rainfall of over 7 cm in several areas of the city.

K Sathidevi, director of IMD, Mumbai, said, “While during the dayonly spells of rainfall are being seen, heavy showers are lashing at nights. After the incessant downpour last night, we recorded 49.8 mm rains in Colaba and 51.5 mm in Santacruz from 8.30 pm (Thursday) to 8.30 am on Friday morning. In comparison, rainfall in the two locations was only 0.2 mm and 9 mm as calculated from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm on Friday.”

The IMD reported heavy rainfall across the west coast through out the Konkan belt and Goa. “In fact areas like Ratnagiri have been recording 26 cm of rains now. Interior areas like Kolhapur also recorded good rains,” the department sources said.

According to Sathidevi, a well marked trough is currently present on the west coast which will continue giving good rains in the regions. “The winds are strong and we have even flagged off a warning to the fishermen in Maharashtra and Goa coast against venturing into the sea,” she said. The maximum temperature in Mumbai is recorded around a pleasant 28.5 degrees and the minimum around 25 degrees.

Sathidevi predicted that similar weather condition with spells of rains and thundershowers and occasional heavy downpour will continue over the weekend.
