Chandigarh, January 4 The garbage processing plant coming up at Dadumajra will take three more months to complete. While some machines from Germany have already reached here, the installation is being delayed due to pending civil work.

To inspect the progress of the project, Mayor Pardeep Chhabra today visited the site. He was accompanied by Deputy Mayor Harphool Chander Kalyan, area councillor Kamlesh, Joint Commissioner-II H S Kandhola and medical officer Dr G C Bansal. The Mayor also visited the dumping ground where the work for closing, capping and development of sanitary land fill for the scientific disposal of garbage under the Central Pollution Control Board sponsored project is in progress.

The Deputy Mayor after visiting the site told Newsline that during their visit the officials of Jai Parkash Associates Limited told them that the plant will start functioning in three months time.

“We have clearly told the company officials that the work has already been delayed and the project should be completed in two-month time instead of three months. At present, 50 per cent work is pending, as some machines are yet to be brought to the site,” said Kalyan.

Mayor Pardeep Chhabra, Senior Deputy Mayor Anju Beniwala and Deputy Mayor went to meet the UT Adviser, Pradip Mehra, after their visit to the site. During their meeting, the issue of garbage processing plant was also taken up. Kalyan said that the Adviser told them to ensure the completion of project at the earliest.

“Adviser has also said that the work should be completed in time. We are going to invite the company officials to take up the issue soon,” Kalyan said. He further added that only half of the work has been completed so far. “The project is progressing at slow speed,” he said.
