Chandigarh, March 2 “It is a very proud moment for us. We watched the match from the start and I had full faith in Siddharth that he will perform well. He has shown a lot of confidence in the tournament picking up 10 wickets. I believe it will help him a lot,” says well-known physiotherapist Tej Kaul. His son Siddharth Kaul played a vital role in steering India towards victory in the Under-19 World Cup final on Sunday. He took two wickets in the last over in the nail-biter against South Africa.

And was the family nervous when skipper Virat Kohli gave the ball to Siddharth in the last over? “We were not nervous at that time. In fact we felt proud when Virat gave the ball to Siddharth as it gave him a chance to go down in history,” says Tej .

Talking to Newsline from Delhi, Siddharth’s elder brother, Uday, said Siddharth always wanted to be a part of the Indian side after seeing Yuvraj Singh play a crucial role in the 2000 Under-19 World Cup. Uday plays for Punjab in Ranji One-Day Tournament. Tej believes his son will soon follow in Yuvraj’s footsteps.

Siddharth had made his Ranji Trophy debut for Punjab in December last picking up five wickets. He made it to the Indian side for the Under-19 World Cup at Malaysia. On Saturday, Siddharth became a part of history guiding his team to a famous victory at Kuala lumpur.

South Africa needed 20 runs in the final over when skipper Virat Kohli handed over the ball to Kaul.
