Ludhiana He carried the mantle of having revived the Punjabi cinema. And now singer, actor and producer Harbhajan Mann is ready with his latest flick, Jag jeodeyan de mele. This film as per Maan, “has nothing of my previous films that revolved largely around the NRI nostalgia. The subject matter of this film is completely different and so is the treatment of the entire film.”

Mann along with story writer Baldeb Gill, actors Tulip Joshi and Gulzar Inder Singh Chahal were at PVR cinemas for the release of this film.

Harbhajan Mann: (producer and main lead ) This film is a journey of a young man who is in search of love and life. He travels from his village in Punjab to Vancouver and these places are the back-drop of the film and not the subject matter per se. This film offers many a first in the sense this is the first Punjabi film featuring Bollywood actress Tulip Joshi and it has music scored by Sandesh Sandhiliya of the Khabhu Khushi Kabhu Gham fame. Above all, it is for the first time that well known singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has sung for a Punjabi film. This film is a progression from my earlier film and given a chance (read financial backing), one day we will make Slumdog Millionaire kind of a film in Punjabi.

Tulip Joshi (heroin of the film): From Matrobhoomi, Dokha and now to a Punjabi film, I have always tried to do roles that hold some meaning and also give me a chance to showcase my talent. No doubt for one I am doing a showpiece role in a an under-production Hindi film but then this film is a kind of giving myself a break. When director Manish Jha offered Matrubhoomi - “A nation without women” - to me I was reluctant to do the role for I was slightly scared. But then the message of stopping female foeticide appealed to me and I decided to do the film which won me national and international accolades. Choosing this film was also primarily based on the fact that this project had a great team in the form of Harbhjan Mann, Baljeet Singh Deol, the director of the film, who has worked with well- known film editor J Vincent and of course the story line of this film is great.

Baldev Singh Gill: (story writer and screen-play writer known for a film like Chan Pardesi): Through this film we have tried to broaden the landscape of Punjabi cinema. The technical treatment of film is of very high standards. As far as the story goes, this film is not preachy by nature and instead helps each one of us try and find our own self. It is about the journey of a person through dreams, sadness, happiness, love and hate.

Gulzar Singh Singh Chahal (actor and producer of this film): This is my debut film and all I can say is that this film will make us all feel very proud to be a Punjabi. To be very honest, Punjabis will have to stand up for their own cinema so that we can take this genre to new heights. It was during a long discussion with Harbhajan Mann, with whom I share a long association, we decides that the time had come to take Punjabi cinema to a new level. People have started coming back to cinema halls to watch Punjabi films and now we can experiment bringing up new subjects.
