Jai Kapil inspires Godrej CC win

Chandigarh, February 24 An inspired knock of 54 runs by Jai Kapil helped Godrej Cricket Club to register a 32-run wicket over SVIET Club in the inaugural match of the second Godrej Defender Cup being organised by Chandigarh Sports Club at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector-32 on Sunday.

Goderej Cricket Club won the toss and elected to bat first. The decision seemed to be a wrong one as both the openers were dismissed cheaply. But a fruitful partnership of 87 runs by Jai Kapil and Vaneet Chawla steadied the innings for Godej Cricket Club. Jai Kapil completed his half-century in the process before Vaneet Chawla departed after making 31. Inderjit later chipped playing a vital knock of 40 runs to help Godrej Crciket Club post a respectable total of 186 runs in the allotted 25 overs.

In reply, SVIET were off to a shaky start as they lost both of their openers cheaply. Jabarjeet Singh was the only batsman to display some resistance before SVIET could manage only 154 runs for the loss of nine wickets in the allotted 25 overs. For Godrej Club, Kulwinder Romy and Devi Singh picked up two wickets each.

In the second match of the day, Hari Kripa XI defeated Charan Salwan XI by 19 runs. Hari Kripa Xi won the toss and opted to bat first. Hari Kripa XI were given a decent start by their openers who were associated in a 36-run stand for the first wicket. After the openers departed, wickets fell at regular intervals for Hari Kripa XI and in the end the tem posted a total of 143 runs. Vinod Sharma was the top scorer for Hari Kripa XI playing a knock of 40 runs .

In reply, Charan Salwan XI were off to a good start as the openers were associated in a 49-run stand for the first wicket. But once the openers departed, the rest of the batsmen could not face the challenge and the whole team was bundled out for 124 runs. Charan Amrit was the top scorer for Charan Salwan XI playing a knock of 42 runs while Rohit Singh made 28.

Hari Kirpa XI : 143 all out in 25overs (Vinod Sharma 40, Jatin 35, Anil Sharma 4 for 19, Sharanjit Singh 2 for 18),

Charan Salwan XI : 124 runs all out in 22.3 overs (Charan Amrit 42, Rohit Singh 28, Satish 2 for 17, Suresh Sahndil 2 for 19).
