Chandigarh A two-day seminar on New Dimensions on Prison Reforms kicked off at the Moot Court Hall in Panjab University on Friday. Administrative officers from across the country expressed their opinions on the need to bring about changes in the correctional measures adopted in prisons.

B D Sharma, Additional Director General, Correctional Services, West Bengal, spoke about the reforms initiated in prisons in the state. He also highlighted the culture therapy taken up by the authorities where workshops on dance, music and theatre are conducted regularly. “Apart from staging dramas for the public, we also motivate inmates to participate in concerts by eminent artistes and groups. Sports activities and tournaments are also organised in the jail,” he said.

Sharma emphasised that reforming prisoners is to ensure their holistic development, which should be taken up the administration seriously.
