Jamnalal Bajaj Awards conferred on four social workers

Four social workers were conferred with the prestigious the Jamnalal Bajaj Awards on Friday for their roles in the fields of conservation, women and social empowerment and awareness against non-violence. The award function was attended by Baba Ramdev. Every year, the Jamnalal Awards is conferred to promote Gandhian constructive programmes.

This year, winners were: Lavanam , a 79-year-old social activist from Andhra Pradesh; Ayyappa Masagi, a mechanical engineer from Karnataka who quit a job at L&T to take up water literacy work in villages; Dr Jaya Arunachalam, a 1987 Padmashree awardee from Tamil Nadu, who has been working to develop human resource potential of poor women workers in the informal sector in urban and rural areas and Father Charles Peter Dougherty, a Catholic priest from US, who has travelled across the world and undertaken Satyagraha protesting against violence.
