Amritsar, February 4 The Sikh high priests will hold a crucial meeting tomorrow at the Akal Takht on the issue of Nanakshahi calendar, which was rejected by Takht Patna Sahib Jathedar Giani Iqbal Singh last weak, leading to a war of words amongst the clergymen.

A day ahead of the meet, Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Joginder Singh Vedanti held close-door parleys with Sant Samaj leaders today.

The Shabad Guru Parchar Sant Samaj, a conglomeration of various Sikh saints' organisation, headed by Baba Ghalla Singh, gave recognition to the Nanakshahi Calendar, after the meeting with Jathedar Vedanti and said all the edicts in this regard would be binding on the Sikhs.

The sants have taken a break from their previous stance that was against the calendar. Their stand is being seen as a major relief for the Takht.

The calendar adopted by the Akal Takht in 2001 had led to various controversies. Giani Iqbal Singh has not been invited to the meeting in which the high priests from other four takhts and head Granthi of the Golden Temple would be participating. The other issues that might come up for discussion would be the issue of maryada and violation of Takht's edict related to ban on taking Guru Granth Sahib to marriage palaces, which was violated by Congress leader and MP Rana Gurjit Singh.

Jathedar Vedanti confirmed that they have not invited Giani Iqbal Singh. When asked about religious action against him, he said it would be decided by the Sikh high priests tomorrow.

To a question on two marriages by Giani Iqbal Singh in violation of maryada, Jathedar Vedanti said they had not received any complaint in this regard.
