Infighting in the BJP again came to the fore during a party meeting at Fatehpur on Monday night. During the meeting, chaired by BJP vice-president and Rajya Sabha member Shanta Kumar, Kangra Lok Sabha member Rajan Sushant complained that some leaders are working against party candidate Baldev Raj Chaudhary. Sources said he indirectly pointed at three leaders, who are damaging the prospects of Chaudhary.

Sushant reportedly said he would disclose the names of the leaders to the high command and urged Shanta Kumar to ensure that action against them is taken after November 10. The acts of these leaders are demoralising the party workers, the Kangra MP said.

The BJP is also worried about its rebel candidate Madan Sharma. Though he has not made much of an impact on residents, he is likely eat into the party votes. Compared to earlier days of campigning, Chaudhary has gained strength but it is still to be seen whether he can defeat Pathania.

Voters, however, complain that both parties are hardly taking up local issues like roads, small bridges and drinking water. “Gariban jo kun puchhda. Tusan dikhi liye kya hal hai sada (Who cares about the poor man. You can see our condition),” rued Ner Singh of Lahdu village.

A woman also said that though she had got a job under the NREGS, she could not get enough workdays.

When asked who they would support, many voters refused to disclose their choice and said “let the day of polling come and we will decide then”.

Interestingly, many voters do not even know the names of the candidates and only recognise their party symbols —— the hand and lotus.
