New Delhi A city jeweller received a threat call reportedly from the underworld on Wednesday, twice. According to the source, Vinod Gupta who owns two jewellery shops, in Preet Vihar and Defence Colony, approached the police after someone from Dawood Ibrahim’s ‘D-company’ reportedly threatened him and asked him to shell out Rs 30 lakh in cash.

On the basis of Gupta’s complaint, a case was lodged at the Preet Vihar police station in East Delhi. Gupta was at his Preet Vihar shop when he received the call twice - morning and evening.

Police sources said that the calls were made from different numbers and the police are trying to verify the details. A senior police officer said that on Wednesday someone called Gupta, demanded money and threatened him of dire consequences. In his reply, Gupta said, “Bhaisaab market manda chal raha hai (recession time), kahan se paise de (Its recession time, from where can we get the money).”

The police officer added that they are not leaving anything to chance. “Though Gupta hasn’t received any call today, we are probing all details,” the police officer said.

Confirming the matter, Deputy Commissioner of Police, East district, Shankar Dash said, “We don’t know whether or not the caller was from D-company. It might be a prank. On our part, we are verifying all details.”
