Vadodara, February 22 A Chhota Udepur-Based jeweller was robbed off jewellery worth Rs 1.5 lakh on Thursday night while he was returning home after closing down his shop.

The incident occurred in the main market of the tribal town when Sachin Soni of Real Jewellers had locked his shop after the day's work. The miscreants, who appeared to be four youths, were apparently sitting on a nearby pavement for over an hour. As soon as Soni moved away from his shop, they fired at him, wounding him in the shoulder.

On hearing the gunshot, youths from the neighbourhood tried to chase them away and even pelted stones, but they escaped with a bag containing jewellery. They reportedly ran towards Orsang river.

Soni later lodged a complaint with the Chhota Udepur police station. However, no arrests have been made so far.

While loot incidents are common in the tribal districts of Dahod and Panchmahals to the north of Vadodara, the violence is now also spreading in the city with a spurt in such incidents in recent times.
