The thieves entered the shop, Yash Jewellers, which was closed for lunch, by breaking a common wall between it and its neighbouring shop, which has been unoccupied for a few years, police said.
They added that they had some leads about the caper, but remained tight lipped about it as it could affect the investigations.
Shekar Pavan, the owner of the shop, registered a complaint at the J P Road Police Station.
According to the police, the thieves first tried to enter by opening the shutter, but they failed. Then they broke into a closed shop next door and punched a hole through the wall.
Police Inspector T P Parmar said that the theft was probably pre-planned, as not a single valuable was left behind after the caper. "They knew when the owner would close the shop for lunch and for how long. After entering the shop, they worked efficiently," Parmar said. He added that a police dog squad and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team also visited the shop for evidence, but refused to divulge more information.
The police tried to talk to those living and working in the vicinity around the jewellery store to determine whether someone witnessed the theft.
