It's that time of the year again. When Panjab University students get together and call out to students of other universities to have loads of fun and put their talent to test. It’s Jhankaar 2009, the annual youth festival by Panjab University Campus Student’s Council . “A fest where culture and creativity meets,” says convener of the fest Harkanwal, as we walk in the Law Auditorium on Day One of the four-day fest, where classical dances, shabad, poetry recitation, extempore, cartooning and paint your face contests rule.

With 16 universities participating in the fest, along with Jammu University, Hissar and Jamia Millia University, amongst the new events introduced this year is Installation, Harkanwal tells us. “In this students are expected to make 3-D figures using any material. Besides, this year we have loads of musical events,” he hands over the list where group songs, ghazal, folk songs and folk orchestra competitions dominate. “Other events include one act play, skit, mimicry, quiz, collage making, poster making and elocution,” chips in Arastu Chopra. Meanwhile, Paintball game keeps many contestants busy. But the icing on the cake was the fashion show and western dance show by the students of NIFD, UIET, IIFT and Sky Hawks Institute and the laser show. Here’s looking forward to an equally rocking Day Two.
