Mumbai Karan Dharni Dharka of CCI and Sanjay Jhaveri of PJ Hindu Gymkhana registered exciting wins to advance to the elite round, in the CCI Platinum Jubilee Open Snooker Tournament at the CCI’s Wilson Jones Billiards Room on Sunday.

Dharka endured a strong challenge before overcoming Kanishkar Jhanjaria 70-29, 33-69, 45-30, 50-61, 67-1 in an absorbing fourth round tie.

Dharka got off to a good start with a comfortable win in the opening frame, before Jhanjaria fought back on two occasions to clinch the second and fourth frames before losing his way in the deciding fifth.

In another close fourth round tie, Jhaveri beat back a late challenge by the formidable Sarang Shroff with a 65-33, 65-19, 30-108, 65-56 win.

A significant break of 67 in the third frame did not help Shroff’s cause as Jhaveri replied with a break of 40 in the fourth to seal the match.

India junior No 2 Vivek Chopra of Jalandhar upset Arun Agrawal of Mumbai 50-62, 51-35, 55-48, 64-50 to enter the second phase of the competition. Chopra missed the black in the opening frame as Agrawal took a 1-0 lead. But Agrawal did not capitalise on his young opponent’s blemish and lost the next three frames.
