The students were joined by a large number of foreign nationals, including Palestinians belonging to the General Union of Palestine Students (GUPS).

Sandeep Singh, JNUSU president, said India is one of the biggest buyers of weapons from Israel. “Israel must be using the money paid by India to fund the war. Our country should immediately sever ties with such a fascist country,” he said. Singh said the student’s union was completely against the war and condemned the attack for its “barbaric” nature.

Around 300 students, including some from Delhi University and Jamia Millia Islamia, gathered at Jantar Mantar in the afternoon to condemn the attacks that have killed more civilians than armed personnel.

The protest was organised after the GUPS contacted the JNUSU office bearers. Both student groups then decided that they would share a common platform for protest, which would include students from other universities as well.

Ibrahim, president of GUPS and also a student at JNU, called the invasion “an attack against humanitarianism that no one can tolerate”. Ibrahim, who came to JNU a year ago to study, said the most condemnable thing is the fact that most of those killed are innocent civilians.
