Mumbai In yet another incident of breach of security at Mantralaya on Wednesday, a 40-year-old unemployed man from Nashik, struggling for a job, inflicted injuries upon himself. He was arrested and charged with attempted suicide.

Sanjay Suryavanshi claimed that he had not received the post of Agricultural Assistant or Gram Sevak despite clearing its exam in 1998. According to the Mantralaya officials, Suryavanshi went to meet Minister for Water Resources Ajit Pawar on the third floor. When he failed to meet Pawar, he headed towards the sixth floor where he was intercepted by the security.

“We spotted him while he was going to the sixth floor. He then started to create ruckus and became uncontrollable. He began beating his head and started bleeding. He has been handed over to Marine Drive police,” said a constable at Mantralaya.

“In 1998, Suryavanshi was one of 402 candidates who qualified for the position of Gram Sevak after clearing its examination. However, the applicants went to the High Court after there was a delay in their employment. In 2003, the High Court ruled in their favour and said that the qualified candidates should be employed within 6 months. As many as 190 of them were employed, while the remaining 212 including Suryavanshi could not make it since they didn’t reapply on time,” said Police Inspector B Bansode from Marine Drive police station.

He added, “Last year there was another round of exams but Suryavanshi and other old applicants were notr considered for the positions. He was also depressed since he is 40 and still unemployed.”
