JU students keep V-C under ‘office arrest’ for over a day

Kolkata The Jadavpur University authorities have once again been confined to Aurobindo Bhavan, the main administrative block of the university, for more than 24 hours by the students.

Till late Thursday evening, Vice-Chancellor Pradip Narayan Ghosh and Pro Vice-Chancellor Siddhartha Datta were confined to their offices.

The students are demanding withdrawal of the code of conduct for student that was decided by the university’s executive council in November 2009.

The students want a written assurance from the authorities on this and term the set of rules as the university’s method to restrict their freedom on the campus.

As per the code of conduct, the students have been asked to carry Identity cards, not to hold street theatres on the campus and to follow sound pollution norms during the college fest.
