District supply officials said only a day’s stock was available with the district petrol pumps. However, the district administration claimed that all petrol pumps were functioning, but, according to sources, some pump owners had put up ‘no stock’ boards to avoid customers.

To handle the chaotic situation, the district administration had put up an alert tag on fuel selling. Sources said the administration had ordered that petrol and diesel be distributed under police protection.

According to Junagadh supply officials, of the 118 petrol pumps, 111 were functioning during the strike. The district administration, however, maintained that the fuel stock was kept reserved in some of the pumps for emergency, while the supply of LPG cylinders was stopped for the last three days.

During the day, some untoward incidents were reported in the district. An IOC petrol pump owner in Vanthli town was threatened with dire consequences when he could not supply petrol to the customers.

According to Vanthali town police, petrol pump operator Gambhirsing Jethava (31) was abused and threatened by two — Haresh alias Hariyo Boricha and his accomplice.

The police registered a complaint under Section 504 and 506 (2) of the Indian Penal Code.

Meanwhile, in support of the nationwide truck transporters’ strike, private bus service operators had also declared a two-day strike on Thursday and Friday.

Kartikbhai Upadhyay, director of Mahasagar Travels, Junagadh, said: “Some 150 private buses are off the road. All long and short distance bus services have been cancelled for the next two days.”

Transport officials said some 8,000 passengers avail the private bus service everyday.
