The resolution passed by the High Court Bar Association on Friday, meanwhile, continues to hang fire. On the proposal of two senior judges of the High Court, the Bar had decided that Justice Singh will not sit single or as a senior in a division bench as long as he is a judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The resolution is awaiting approval by the chief justice.
The Bar Council of India (BCI), meanwhile, has decided to observe February 27 as ‘Black Day’ in wake of the Chennai protests where advocates were cane-charged by the police.
“The BCI has directed all bar associations in the country to observe February 27 as Black Day. The BCI has given three options to all the Bar Associations, to either hold dharnas or to abstain from work or wear black badges. It is up to the bar associations to decide on their method to observe the Black Day,” said Advocate B K Goel, Chairman of the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana. Rupinder S Khosla, President of the Bar, said: “I have not received any such notice from the BCI. The moment we receive it, we will decide on how we join in the protests.”
