Mumbai Most of the fancied pugilists made it to the round of eight in the third Mayor’s Super Cup Boxing Championship at the Shahaji Raje Krida Sankul in Andheri West Mumbai.

Commonwealth silver medalists Rakesh Kalaskar (IBF), Sanjay Kolte (SSCB), Chhotelal Yadav (IBF), G Satya Raju (SSCB) sailed smoothly, while P Narjeet Singh (IBF) had to fight tooth and nail to make the quarter final grade.

Sanjay Kolte proved his class as he stoped Sunil Kumar (NZG) in the 2nd round of his bantam weight bout and so did Rakesh who prefered not to sweat much against Satpal Singh (NZY).

Rakesh won 11-2 in his light weight bout. Rakesh’s teammate Chottelal Yadav found Manoj Pagare (Mah) in the feather weight class a far more easy opponent to deal with winning 19-2.

P Narjeet Singh and Aitesham slugged it out after both fought cautiously with the former just about opening his account.

Narjeet held that one point advantage trough out to emerge victorious at 8-7.

Host Maharashtra did not have a good day as all their boxers with the exception of Vinit Kotian failed to make headway.

Vinit who trailed 3-4 against Harikishan (NEZY) at the end of the first round came back roaring in the second to forge ahead 10-6.

In the last round, Vinit kept his opponents at bay to win the light welter weight bout 13-6.
