Kolkata The Calcutta High Court today directed Kalyani University to reinstate 39 non-teaching staff whose services were terminated by the university authorities in August 2007.

The order was passed by a Division Bench comprising Justice Subhra Kamal Mukherjee and Justice Kalidas Mukherjee. In December, 2003 the Kalyani University had appointed 39 non-teaching staff from the list forwarded by the employment exchanges of Barrackpore, Kalyani and Murshidabad.

One Shayamal Pramanik, who could not make it to the list, challenged the appointments in Calcutta High Court in 2004. Delivering an order, Justice Pratap Kumar Roy had cancelled the appointment of those non-teaching staff in January, 2005. At that time both the University and the non-teaching staff moved court challenging the order passed by Justice Roy. The university, meanwhile, had terminated services of those non teaching staff in August 2007.
