Kanpur, March 5 The Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) will begin preparations for the forthcoming India-South Africa Test match from March 11.

Officials from the South African Cricket Board will be visiting Kanpur shortly to inspect the security arrangements.

The Test is scheduled to be held at the Green Park stadium from April 11 to 15.

According to sources, the association is hopeful that the state, which charges a rent of Rs 50 lakh for the stadium, will provide some discount to it. Secretary Rajiv Shukla had earlier said the association has requested the government to reduce the rent and it is expected the demand will be considered.

Pitch Curator Shiv Kumar said he would soon start working on the main pitch.

After the Challenger Trophy that concluded recently and the ongoing Central Zone One-Day league matches, the pitch need to be prepared well for the big match, he added.

He has registered a written complaint against referee Sameer Gurjar, who had spit pan masala on the pitch during a Central Zone One-Day league match.
