The proposal has been forwarded to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) for the final nod. The KMC in its proposal has listed three stretches in the city where roads made by mixing plastic waste with bitumen will be constructed as pilot project.
This includes the 3-kilometre stretch between Gurudwara crossing and HBTI gate on the zoo road, a three-kilometre road from the PAC railway crossing till the bypass, and a two-kilometre stretch from Chapera Pulia to Deoki crossing.
“It is a good method of putting an end to the plastic menace in the state. Once approved by the CPCB, it will be implemented in other parts of the state as well,” said Rajeev Upadhyaya, Chief Environmental Officer, UPPCB. Additional Director of CPCB, AB Akolkar said they were examining the proposal. “Once approved, they will have to complete the work in three months. If necessary, we will provide them with the technical assistance.”
