Faizabad Darbara Sahab, the younger brother of Bahujan Samaj Party founder late Kanshi Ram will contest for the Lok Sabha polls from Basti parliamentary constituency in eastern Uttar Pradesh.

Sahab, a resident of Khawas Pur village in Ropar district of Punjab, is the all-India president of a Dalit-based political outfit, Bahujan Sangharsh Party. According to Dr RC Varma, one of the lieutenants of Kanshi Ram in the early days of Bahujan movement, Sahab will launch his poll campaign on March 15 — the birth anniversary of the late Kanshi Ram.

Varma, the general secretary of Bahujan Sangharsh Party, said the party has decided to field Ashtbhuja Pathak from neighbouring Dumariyaganj Lok Sabha seat.

Speaking to The Indian Express, Varma said: “To give a new light to the Dalit movement in Uttar Pradesh, we have requested our national president to contest from Basti. The movement has faded after the death of Kanshi Ram.”
