According to Jaswant Singh Chapa, spokesperson of Buddha Nallah Development Committee, “We cleaned around half a km from this stretch today. The filth is being taken out with the help of trolleys. A lot of garbage has been dumped by people here, adding to the problem.”
The drive, which was started in December 2006, has not crossed more than 18 km. The development committee members said that at many points, sewer water is still being discharged in the nallah.
And at a few other points, industrial effluents are coming being dumped, making the drive slow.
The members claimed that once all the sewerage treatment plants start functioning in Ludhiana, pollution levels will reduce up to a great extent. The villagers are being told to discharge sewer in a pond outside the village instead of throwing in the nallah.
