Mumbai, February 29 Malwani police are conducting an inquiry after a Karnataka-based businessman was allegedly robbed by five unidentified assailants in Malad on Thursday evening. According to the police, Farukh Ibrahim (31), a furniture dealer from Belgaum in Karnataka, came to Mumbai after he was promised a good deal in old furniture.

Lured by the deal, Ibrahim along with his associate, Sher Ali Khan, who is also a furniture dealer from Oshiwara, went to Marve to meet the party interested in selling furniture.

“The five men who met Ibrahim and Khan in Marve on the pretext of selling old furniture, took them to INS Hamla, and assaulted both of them. They then made off with Rs 1 lakh from Ibrahim, which he had kept for buying the furniture and Rs 10,000 from Khan. Ibrahim, who sustained injuries, has been admitted to a private hospital at Oshiwara and a case of dacoity has been filed against the five unidentified assailants,” said Senior Police Inspector Jaywant Hargude of the Malwani police station.

Hargude added, “We have detained Khan as we suspected his hand in the attack. His injuries seemed superficial in comparison to Ibrahim’s. Moreover Khan had acted as the mediator between the accused and Ibrahim. He also asked Ibrahim not to file a police complaint regarding the incident. We are questioning him in the case.”
