Kasab will be in the custody of the Mumbai crime branch till February 13.
Kasab has been charged for various incidents in the city during the terror strike and this the sixth case, out of the 12 against Kasab.
Additional Chief Metropolitian magistrate N Shrimangle extended Kasab’s custody at the crime branch lock up at the police headquarters near Crawford market. Due to security reasons, police have not been producing Kasab in court and the magistrate was requested to visit the lock up where he has been placed under high security.
Public Prosecutor Eknath Dhamal said the crime branch sought Kasab’s custody in a case registered against him at the Yellow Gate police station regarding the use of Indian trawler Kuber from Porbunder, which was hijacked by the terrorist, who alighted a few nautical miles off the Mumbai coast. While leaving the trawler, the terrorist killed Narayan who had been taken hostage, he said.
Kasab was arrested by the D B Marg police station on November 26, 2008 and had been remanded in crime branch custody earlier, too.
The police have charged Kasab under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, Arms Act and Explosive Substances Act.
Kasab is the sole surviving terrorist who is important in proving Pakistan’s role in spreading terror in India. Kasab stated to be a Lashkar-e-Toiba operative is believed to have been given over a year’s training in handling arms and ammunition in Pakistan before he was sent to carry out the terror strike. The police are likely to file a chargesheet against him and three others by this month and the trial will be on a day-to-day basis at a special court being set up inside Arthur Road Jail, sources said.
