Senior Police Inspector Kiran Sonone from the Oshiwara police station said, “We had received a tip-off about some girl from Kazakhstan indulging in flesh trade with the help of two Indian men at a rented room in Adarsh Nagar. Acting on the information we sent one of our officers to pose as a customer.” When the officer entered the room and confirmed flesh trade he informed the officials outside the room. They raided the place and arrested the Kazakh national, later identified as Elina Singatulina (24) and two other Indian men, identified as Niranjan Rohani and Kapil Ravidas.
Sonone further said that Elina had come to India for the first time and had landed in Mumbai on a tourist visa on January 20. When asked about how she came in contact with Rohani and Ravidas, Sonone said, “In the past also we have conducted raids and apprehended women from Kazakhstan. We got to know that people indulging in the flesh trade regularly travel to Kazakhstan and get in touch with girls there. Some girls would agree and come to Mumbai on tourist visas and get involved in flesh trade. Since the past few years, women from Kazakhstan have been much in demand in the flesh trade. People here take advantage of their poverty to lure them into flesh trade.”
