The Kharar chapter of the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) has claimed this in a letter to Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, urging Badal to pay a visit to the town to witness the extent of cruelty to animals.
In a representation sent on Friday, the copies of which were released to the media, SPCA president Dr Pawan Kumar Jain told the CM that the cargo dispatched from the illegal export centre, running under the shelter of some vested interests, includes old and barren buffaloes, male buffaloes and their calves. The cattle are kept in miserable conditions, he said.
Dr Jain has further written that all types of cattle, ill and stolen, are sold and purchased from here. Neither is there any arrangement of drinking water and fodder for the cattle nor is there any shed to protect them from the vagaries of weather.
“The cattle are tied with small ropes, which do not even permit them a reasonable opportunity for movement,” he has written.
He has alleged that despite repeated requests, the local administration has so far failed to check the cruelty on animals.
“The apathetic attitude of the authorities concerned has resulted in the increasing trend of cruelty to animals in Kharar sub-division,” said Dr Jain
