Kherwadi policeman injured by firecrackers

Mumbai Senior Police Inspector Vijay Mestri of the Kherwadi police station was injured when some people started bursting fire crackers during MNS chief Raj Thackeray’s visit to inaugurate a MNS contact office at Bandra east on Tuesday night. Mestri suffered minor injuries and was later discharged after preliminary medical attention.

As per the Kherwadi police, around 8 pm on Tuesday, a crowd had gathered at the service road in Gandhinagar at Bandra east as MNS chief Raj Thackeray was supposed to come there for inaugurating a newly opened MNS office.

Mestri said, “There was a large crowd to catch a glimpse of Raj Thackeray and when he arrived, some people started bursting crackers to welcome him without paying any attention to the group of policemen posted there. I was standing nearby with other officers for maintaining law and order when some fragments of the firecrackers being burst landed on my right hand, causing burn injuries.”

The persons who were bursting crackers have been arrested for negligence and causing injury to public servant while on duty. The arrested persons have been identified as Pramod Parab (45), Abdullah Sayyad (18), a student from Behram Nagar and Shailesh Kunder (21).
