Surat, March 2 The Surat police have rescued a two-year-old girl from Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh, three days after she was kidnapped from Rameshwarshree colony in Sachin area of the city.

The police arrested the kidnapper, Guddusingh, a neighbour. He had given Rs 350 to the girl’s father Bhaiyalalsingh Thakor, who failed to return the amount, following which he kidnapped the girl on Tuesday.

Thakor, a textile worker, had lodged a complaint with the Sachin police the same day. In the complaint, he said his daughter Anmol was playing at her neighbour Harishchandra’s house. Guddu visited Harishchandra’s house and told him that Anmol’s mother Tulsidevi was looking for her. When Tulsi went to the house after some time, she was shocked to learn that Guddu had taken the girl with him.

During investigations, Inspector K R Bhuva found that the accused was working in a textile factory in Pandesara and had been jobless for a couple of days. Guddu had been staying at one Jagat Rajput’s house on rent for the last two months. When the police went there, they found that he had already left for his native place in Jabalpur. The police took Guddu’s photograph and his permanent address from Jagat.

The police immediately contacted the Superintendent of Police of Jabalpur and informed him about the incident.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone-2, Subhash Trivedi said, “We sent our team led by Sub-Inspector M V Tadvi to Jabalpur and they were lucky as they reached Guddu’s house early. They took his parents in confidence. When Guddu arrived on Friday with the girl, the Surat police caught him with the help of the Jabalpur police. The team returned to Surat on Saturday night.”

Sub-Inspector M V Tadvi said, “We reached Guddu’s native Singoda village on Thursday and asked his father Harisingh Thakor about him. We told his family about the incident which left his wife shocked. Guddu is the father of a one-year-old boy.”

Inspector K R Bhuva of the Sachin police said Guddu was emotionally attached to the girl, and his intention was to keep her with him. “He had warned Anmol’s father to return the amount but he did not get any proper response. The motive of the crime was only to get the money back,” he said.
