Kolkata Nearly a week after a kidney racket was busted in the city, the Detective department of the Kolkata police has sent out teams to Delhi, Coimbatore and Chandigarh in search for the alleged kingpin in the case — Manik Chowdhury.

The Kolkata police had stumbled upon the racket last week after one of the intended victims, 21-year-old Suman Rudra, alleged that three persons — Mithun, Hriday and a third accused — had lured him to a city hospital, as part of the trap, on the pretext of finding him a job.

The police have reportedly found the Bihar-based doctor who had allegedly contacted the accused for a kidney. The doctor had apparently approached a hospital in Chandigarh initially for the kidney. Several hospitals in Delhi are also under the scanner as many fake documents recovered from another accused, Chandana Mukherjee of Thakurpukur, raise questions on some of the renowned hospitals in the capital.

Cops probe links with other rackets
In February last year, the CID team had unearthed a kidney racket in Barashat area. A couple, Dilip and Shobha Sen, from Dwija Haridas colony in Barasat had been arrested in connection with the case.

In September last year, the North Dinajpur police busted another kidney racket and arrested the alleged mastermind from Bindal near Raiganj. Razzaq, a resident of Antara village in Bindal, was suspected of having duped over 30 Bindal villagers and stolen their kidneys with the help of doctors in New Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata.
